Nothing beats the smell of home cooked food!
At Girls & Boys we know that giving children good nutrition is the best gift we can present them with! It’s a tangible gift that is evident in their eyes, their skin, their hearts and bones.
Between being weaned off milk to the age of five, children are very active and grow extremely quickly so they need a diet that provides adequate amounts of calories and nutrients.
We provide home cooked, delicious meals and snacks for our children which include a wide range of foods and are prepared using fresh produce. We ensure that each full day has either 4 or 5 portions of fruit and vegetables, essential for a child’s nutrient status.
We offer milk or dairy foods at two to three meals during the day in accordance with existing guidance on food groups for children aged one to five years.
Our vegetarian menu is designed to offer a wide variety of appropriate protein sources such as quinoa, pulses and tofu, which are essential for growth, and where possible, is very similar to the regular menu.
We ensure that mealtimes are a happy occasion, actively encouraging conversation and the tasting of new foods. The children sit down at small laid out dining tables with their own cutlery, are served their lunch either by a member of staff who sits with them or for older children, they learn to serve themselves.
Eating together with other children encourages even the faddiest of toddlers to taste and enjoy foods they may not normally eat at home.
Parents are often really surprised to hear that their children have enjoyed houmous, Thai green chicken curry, or Moroccan lamb whilst at nursery, and we pride ourselves on developing the repertoire of food the children enjoy eating.
Special diets, whether for reasons of health or religion are catered for.
